Guatemala

In Guatemala, the Global Burden of Disease 2015 study ranks chronic kidney disease (CKD) as the fifth leading cause of death in the country. Guatemala also has some of the highest rates of CKD and renal failure mortality seen in the Americas, and there are only a limited number of dialysis clinics in the country. Many patients, especially those living in rural areas, lack access to dialysis clinics, which can lead to a lack of treatments and ultimately death for these patients.
